Hemoglobal
Outreach
Program (HOP)

The Hemoglobal Outreach Program (HOP) is a subprogram of Hemoglobal Connect, that delivers a dynamic educational initiative that brings global health conversations directly into classrooms across Canada while furthering Hemoglobal’s charitable mission.
The workshops are hosted by Hemoglobal’s university student volunteers who have undergone specialized training through Hemoglobal to become dynamic workshop leaders. Through this experience, students develop valuable teaching, communication, and leadership skills while inspiring younger students to engage with Hemoglobal’s mission and take action in global health. By engaging students from junior kindergarten through grade 12, the program introduces Hemoglobal’s work and delivers curriculum centered on its mission, helping students understand global health inequities and the challenges faced by individuals with thalassemia in South Asia.
The program offers two specialized workshop streams: Health Science and Social Science.
The Health Science Workshop introduces students to the biological and medical foundations of genetic blood disorders highlighting thalassemia. It covers topics such as cell structure, genetic inheritance, and treatment options, emphasizing Hemoglobal’s interdisciplinary approach to medical care.
The Social Science Workshop emphasizes global health inequities, advocacy, research and activism, highlighting Hemoglobal’s mission to improve care and access for individuals with blood disorders.
Overall, the Hemoglobal Outreach Program creates meaningful, two way impact by empowering university chapters with hands-on leadership experience while educating and inspiring younger students to become informed, compassionate global citizens.
